2016 Taiwan Fellowship

Introduction
   
The Taiwan Fellowship is founded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to award foreign experts and scholars interested in researches related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, mainland China, Asia-Pacific region and Chinese studies to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan.  The Taiwan Fellowship, echoing the APEC Scholarship Initiative, provides 12 Chinese Taipei APEC Fellowship openings per year exclusively for scholars and experts from developing APEC economies.  The application process will begin in May 2016, and recipients will begin their research in Taiwan in January 2017.

1. Financial assistance
(1) Monthly grants are paid at the beginning of every month.
a. Professors, associate professors, research fellows, or associate research fellows: NT$60,000.
b. Assistant professors, assistant research fellows, or doctoral candidates: NT$50,000.
(2) One round-trip, economy-class ticket for the most direct route to Taiwan. (The subsidy will be decided by the MOFA in accordance with the relevant regulations)
(3) The terms of fellowship are 3 to 12 months.
(4) Accident insurance (plus a medical insurance for accidental injuries) coverage of NT$1 million.

2.Eligibility
Recipients shall be foreign professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or doctoral program students at related departments of overseas universities, or are research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions abroad.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: THE 21st DA DUN FINE ARTS EXHIBITION OF TAICHUNG CITY

Calling for entries in April every year, the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition has always attracted a large number of art lovers at home and abroad to take part. The winner of "Da Dun Prize," the highest honor, will be rewarded NT$240,000 as prize money. It is a competition that art creators must take part. There are 11 entry categories including ink wash painting, calligraphy, seal engraving, glue color painting, oil painting, water color painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, crafts and digital art. Global Traditional Chinese Calligraphy Competition

Books from Taiwan is a new initiative funded by the Ministry of Culture to introduce fiction and non-fiction to foreign publishers and readers alike.

On the website you will find information about authors and books, along with who to contact in order to license translation rights. All titles featured are eligible for the National Museum of Taiwan Literature’s Translation and Publication Grants Program.

Taiwan Literature Tool Kit

The “Taiwan Literature Tool kit” has been designed to introduce international readers to Taiwan’s rich and varied literary heritage. Works by Taiwanese writers are grouped into sixteen thematic categories: Indigenous Literature, Taiwan Literature under Japanese Colonial Rule, Writings from Military Dependents’ Villages, Women’s Writing, LGBT Literature, Class in Literature, Religious Literature, Nativist Literature, Diaspora Literature,Modernist Literature, Food in Literature, Landscape in Literature Science Fiction and Mystery, Young Adult, Vernacular Poetry: Holo and Hakka,  and Historical Narrative. Each category features introductions to ten outstanding works of Taiwan literature. Ministry of Education APEC Scholarship

In an effort to promote cross-border educational exchange among Asia-Pacific region member economies, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan) funded the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Scholarship to encourage young scholars to do research in Taiwan, presenting them with an opportunity to learn about Taiwanese society and experience the local culture.

Eligibility
Must be current students in doctoral programs, or current researchers with doctoral degrees who are citizens of APEC member nations but do not have a passport from the Republic of China (Taiwan) at the time of application.

Duration
Two to six months duration based on the fiscal year, generally from March 1 to December 31 of the same year.

Field of Research
Topics related to Taiwan’s arts and humanities, education and culture, social science, natural science and related categories of comparative research in Taiwan.

Award & Subsidy
A monthly subsidy of 25,000 New Taiwan Dollars (NTD) per doctoral student; NTD 40,000 per post-doctoral researcher; one round-trip air ticket per recipient.

Required Documents
Three copies of completed application form; one copy of doctorate degree diploma; current doctoral program students shall submit proof of student status and completion of academic credits; two letters of recommendation.

Application Deadline
Applications must be received by the intended universities or institutions no later than September 30th each year.

Learning Taiwan History on Line !

The Taiwan History Learning Resources Platform is based on the permanent exhibition of the National Museum of Taiwan History called "Our Land, Our People:The Story of Taiwan", where exhibits, literature , photos, models and replicas are used to present knowledge related to the general history in Taiwan. 2014 Taiwan International Student Design Competition

Purpose
To encourage international creative design exchange, develop creative design talents, express the international image of Taiwan attaching great importance to creative design, and establish the international design status of Taiwan.

Qualification
Students who currently enrol at senior high schools or above (Based on the internet registration deadline, and the participant must be born after May 29, 1984, and be yonger than 30 years of age. For females who have given birth before year of 30 may have 2 years extension per birth.).

UMAP Taiwan Exchange Student Program Scholarship

1. Purpose
To encourage university student exchange among UMAP member countries/territories through a UMAP Taiwan Exchange Student Scholarship Program funded by the UMAP Taiwan National Secretariat (NS) and to promote cultural and academic exchange between Taiwan and other countries/territories for mutual understandings.

2. Condition
This scholarship may be granted to applicants who meet the Eligibility Requirements as presented in regulation 5.

3. Scholarship & Quota
I. This Scholarship is funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Taiwan.
II. Each exchange student receives up to 20,000 New Taiwan Dollars (NTD) per month.
III. When the exchange program time duration does not exceed a full month, then the award will be based on the remaining monthly stipend.
IV. The quota will vary from year-to-year based on the annual fiscal budget.

4. Timeline
I. The duration of the exchange program is for one to two semesters, and Scholarship applications will be accepted twice a year based on the USCO Timeline.
II. Exchange students may submit applications twice per academic year based on the “UMAP Exchange Program Procedure and Timeline for USCO (UMAP Students Connection Online).”
III. The exchange student name list will be announced on the UMAP Taiwan website (http:/umap.moe.gov.tw) the day after the deadline for the UCTS student placement.

5. Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this scholarship, all applicants must meet the following requirements:
a. All applicants must apply successfully through the USCO online exchange student system before they can be considered.
b. Applicants must be UMAP outbound exchange students in Taiwan or UMAP inbound exchange students from other countries/territories to Taiwan.
